W.L. "Wib" Wood of Prescott, Kansas died Sunday July 8, 2007 at the Prescott Country View. He was born on June 26, 1919 on a farm east of Rich Hill, Missouri to Virgil and Myrtle Bledsoe Wood. He worked for farmers and later he worked putting in the rural electric lines in Missouri. He was drafted into the Army on December 7, 1941 and served in World War II. He spent four years in the service two of these overseas. He went into the war zone during the Normandy invasion and continued serving through the Battle of the Bulge serving with the 1st Army, 3rd Armored Division in the 33rd Armored Regiment, B Co, Spearhead Division. He married Lila Bloomfield on June 15, 1942. She was his pal and friend for sixty-five years. After returning from the service he began farming and operating heavy equipment making terraces and waterways for farmers. He retired in 1981 but worked off and on in the oil fields. In 1991 he sold the farm and retired in Prescott. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW, and the United Methodist Church in Prescott. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Virgil and Daniel Wood, two sisters Estelle Farrel and Mildred Ilene and a daughter-in-law Janice Wood. He is survived by his wife Lila of Prescott, two sons Gary Wood of Prescott and Bob Wood and wife Carol of Mound City, Kansas, one daughter Kay Lyons and husband Don of Peoria, Arizona, one sister Betty Harris of Prescott, five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and eight great, great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Wednesday July 11, 2007 at the Prescott United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Prescott Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 PM Tuesday at the Coffel- Schneider Funeral Home in Pleasanton, Kansas. The family suggests contributions to the Prescott Methodist Church.
