Willus Lee Englis, age 89 passed away September 21, 2006 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law near Amsterdam. Willus was born February 8, 1917 to Harry Hiram and Ina Belle (Masterson) Englis. He grew up on the family farm and attended Sunnyridge School. After completing eighth grade, with the knowledge learned from his dad and granddad, he began farming. He loved the fall and corn picking time. In his younger days he participated in some hand corn shucking competitions. He was fascinated by today's fast methods of harvesting corn (200bushel). On July 16, 1941, he married Irene VanVlack. This year they celebrated 65 years together. One child, Marian Kay, was born to this union. After retirement he was well known for repairing neighbors' and friend's lawn mowers, sharpening plow shears, and doing small welding jobs. He received much satisfaction in these jobs, asking little monetary pay and was always willing to help family. His parents, his wife, Irene, and four sisters and one brother preceded Willus in death. He is survived by daughter and son-in-law Kay and Paul Cummings, Amsterdam; grandchildren, Lee (Tammy) Cummings, Amsterdam, Sue (Jim) Sanders, Parkville; great grandchildren, Alisia (Ross) Dugan, Butler, Billy Cummings, Amsterdam, James and David Sanders, Parkville; great great granddaughter, Rachel Dugan, Butler; nieces Linda (Jim) McCammon, LaCygne, Sharon Ewbank, Adrian, Sandy (Lawrence) Ernst, LaCygne, nephew, Jim (Linda) Englis, Piper, Kansas. Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Sunday September 24, 2006 at the Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home in LaCygne, Kansas. Burial in the New Lancaster Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. The family suggests contributions to the Donor's Choice or the LaCygne Library Building Fund. Arrangements: Coffel-Schneider, LaCygne, Kansas.
