Dr. William C. Shinkle died March 1, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Born February 8, 1922 he grew up in Mound City, Kansas. He met his wife of 56 years, Anna Irene "Mickey" Shinkle, when they were in medical school together at the University of Kansas. He proudly serviced his Country during World War II as a Navy doctor assigned to the First Marine Division. After the war he completed a residency in Urology at the University of Kansas Medical Center and moved the family to Des Moines, Iowa where he practiced medicine until retiring in 1987. In addition to practicing medicine, which he loved, he owned and operated a ranch in Mound City where he raised prized winning Angus cattle. As a husband, father, surgeon, and cattleman he proudly did things his way. He enjoyed life and was always eager to learn about the world around him and the people in it. He was preceded in death by his wife Anna I. Shinkle and his parents William Harold Shinkle and Donna Marie Shinkle. He is survived by: his three children W. Michael Shinkle (Nan); David Chapman Shinkle (Mary); and Margaret Goodison (Ward); five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. His funeral will be held at 4:00 pm Friday, March 4, 2016 at Schneider Funeral Home, Mound City Chapel, Mound City, Kansas. In lieu of flowers contributions my be made to Mercy Home Health and Hospice at 902 S. Horton, Fort Scott, KS 66701.
