Vivian Louise Stroup, 80, Fontana, Kansas died Wednesday January 3, 2007 at the Olathe Medical Center. She was born July 16, 1926 in Lindsborg, Kansas the daughter of William and Hilma Spongberg Boettcher. She attended Bethany College in Lindsborg, and was a diploma graduate of the Trinity Lutheran Hospital School of Nusing in 1948. Vivian worked as a nurse for 37 years, at the Miami County Hospital, the Osawatomie State Hospital, and her favorite job as school nurse at Prairie View School District #362 for the 13 years prior to retirement. Music was very important in Vivian's life. During her grade and high school years she sang in the Messiah at Bethany College, Lindsborg, Kansas. She was an accomplished vocalist and pianist, taught piano and voice lessons, and was pianist and choir member of the LaCygne United Methodist Church. Vivian was an accompanist for numerous weddings, funerals, church events, and music contests. She also played Christmas carols for family gatherings, including Jingle Bells so Santa would come! Vivian married Roy Stroup of Cadmus, Kansas on May 15, 1948 and they lived on a farm near Cadmus all of their married life. She was active in many community activities. She was a local and county 4-H leader, including directing the Linn County 4-H chorus and ensembles. She was chairperson of the National Pork Producers Association in 1971. She was member of the United Methodist Church, and was chairperson of the 125th anniversary celebration in 1995. She was initiated into the PEO Sisterhood Chapter CV in 1952 and held all offices, including 3 terms as president. Vivian served as the Linn County Chairperson of Sam Brownback's election campaigns. Vivian is survived by Roy, her husband of 58 years, daughter Cindy Kolich and husband Mike, sons Myron Stroup and wife Peggy, Jeff Stroup and wife Cathy, brother William Boettcher and wife Mary Lou, 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, and many other relatives. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday January 6, 2007 at the LaCygne United Methodist Church. Burial in the Cadmus Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Vivian Stroup Memorial Scholarship Fund used for students pursuing education in nursing from the Prairie View District.
