Virginia Ruth (Brown) Mitchell, age 88, passed away peacefully at her home in Pleasanton, Kansas, with her daughter and God-daughter in attendance on Monday December 10th, 2018. Virginia was born to Clinton Marion Brown and Mabel Marie (Stark) Brown on April 29, 1930. She grew up in Argentine, KS, and was an eighth grade graduate. She met the love of her life, Claude Lee (Sonny) Mitchell and was united in marriage on December 19, 1945. To this union was born one child, Claudia Ruth Mitchell McMullin on September 25, 1951. Virginia was a stay-at-home mother who was very involved in the school''s various support groups. She was the Mutual Aide chairman for several years working with low-income families in the school district ensuring that enough food, clothing, and educational materials were available to ensure an equal footing for the child''s school year. Virginia began working at the EandJ Laboratories in 1969 as the Office Administrator/Secretary. Under the tutorage of Dr. Earl Johnson she was promoted to a laboratory assistant.
Virginia had many interests including genealogy, the making and firing of ceramics and porcelain dolls, and making of picture throw pillows with her sister-in-law Louise Birch. She was a member and held several offices in the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Order of the Eastern Star Swan Chapter, White Shrine, Daughters of the Nile - Azrim Temple 81, William Hilton Daughters of the American Confederacy (DAC), Henry Woodhouse Chapter CDXV11C, and the National Society of the Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America.
Virginia was proceeded in death by her parents Clinton and Mabel Brown, one sister Dorothy Marie Brown, her husband of 73 years Claude Lee Mitchell, and her son-in-law Robert Joseph McMullin. She is survived by her daughter Claudia Ruth Mitchell McMullin, of the home, a foster brother Donald Lee Brown and wife, a foster sister Saundra Sue Brown Jones and husband, and several beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pall Bearers for Virginia are Gary Everheart, Aaron Brown Jr., Jim Brown II, Kenneth Greenfield, Ron Holt, and Todd McClain.
Funeral service will be 2 pm Saturday, December 15, 2018 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel. Burial in the Pleasanton Cemetery.
