Virginia Finley

Virginia Louise Finley, 89, of Hume, Missouri, died Friday, April 20, 2012 at Willow Lane Nursing Home, Butler, Missouri. She was born May 22, 1922 in Prescott, Kansas, the daughter of Ira L. and Anna Raney Anderson. She attended Hume High School. On July 29, 1939, she married Walter Finley. He preceded her in death on February 15, 1984. Virginia was a member of the Hume Christian Church and was actively involved in the Hume community where she served as City Clerk for a number of years and as township tax collector. She was involved with the Hume Ball Association for 28 years; past Hume PTA president, served with the Hume Housing Authority and Hume Sr. Citizens. Virginia was manager of the Torneden Funeral Home in Hume from 1963 until January of 1984 when it became Torneden-Coffel Funeral Home, retiring March 31, 2008. Virginia also worked in her spare time as an Avon lady. She and her husband, Walt owned the Finley Standard Station in Hume and also Walt's Small Engine. She was preceded in death also by her parents; seven brothers, William, Earl, Charles, Merle, Kenneth,Clarence and Roy Lee; and three sisters, Irene Caskey, Ruby Billingsley and Betty Barker. Survivors include her son, James Finley and wife, Bobbie of Springfield, Missouri; her daughter, Janic (Jan) Craft and husband, Tom of Butler, Missouri; ten grandchildren; Barbara, Wendy, Bob, Rusty, Dustin, Jim, Lori, Andy, Lynette and Melinda and thirteen great grandchildren. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, April 23, 2012 at the Hume Christian Church, Hume, Missouri. Visitation will be from 3-5 PM, Sunday at the Schneider Funeral Home & Crematory, Hume Chapel. Memorial contributions are suggested to the City Park Bench Fund (Hume) c/o the funeral home. Interment will be in the Hume Cemetery.
