Sylvia Mae Chase, 91, passed peacefully and surrounded by family and caregivers December 11, 2013. Sylvia was born August 18, 1922 in Sulphur, KY to Robert Boyd and Annie Lee Pulliam Quire. Surviving siblings are Frank Quire, Mary Baxter, Alan Quire and deceased are Lewis Quire, Cecil Quire, Elmer Quire and Betty Oliver all of Kentucky. Sylvia enlisted in the US Navy Waves during WWII and worked as an aircraft mechanic in Memphis, TN. During that time, she fell in love with an Army MP, Jewel Charles Chuck Jentzsch Jr., and they were married in Indiana on November 2, 1946. Six children survive - J.C. Jentzsch III and Sandy, Osawatomie; Linda Kern and Gene, Louisburg, Brenda Wilcox, Overland Park; James Jeff Jentzsch and Debbie, Tarpon Springs, FL; Jennifer Johnson and Bobby, Fontana; and Nancy Mills andClay Brown, Spring Hill. After the marriage ended, Sylvia and Robert Chase were married in Englewood, KS on March 26, 1970 and started a new life together. He preceded her in death November 3, 1987. Step children are Gerald Chase, Osawatomie; Lonnie Chase, Spring Hill; Bonnie Pickert, Garnett and those deceased are Robert Chase and Kermit Chase. She leaves 16 grandchildren and numerous great- grandchildren, step grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Sylvia was a caregiver to her children and to others during her lifetime. She worked at an adult handicap facility, a nursing home, was a foster grandparent and helped out her neighbors and friends. She loved the Lord, her Country, children, animals, birds and hats and was known to sport both beautiful and humorous hats daily. She attended Calvary Baptist Church in LaCygne until her residence at Northpoint Skilled Nursing Facility in 2009. She was a Navy veteran and has belonged to the American Legion, and Eastern Star. Funeral service will be held 1 PM Sunday December 15, 2013 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, LaCygne Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow in Miami County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held 3 to 5 PM Saturday at the Chapel. The family suggests contributions to Calvary Baptist Church, Crossroads Hospice or American Diabetes Association.
