Stacey Alexander Furse Jr., age 74 passed away on January 6, 2010, at his home near Mound City, Kansas. Stacey was born at the original Furse family home on April 3, 1935, the son of Stacey Alexander and Ruth May Ellis Furse. He was a 1952 graduate of Mound City High School. He married Barbara Jean Croan on October 21, 1956, at Mantey, Kansas, to this union were born three children; Tony, Tracy, and Trenda. For the first two decades of his adult life, Stacey farmed in partnership with his father before beginning work in the earthmoving field. He worked for twelve years on the topsoil crew at the Pittsburg and Midway Coal Company, where he operated a scraper and later a service road blade. Stacey was a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America. He was also a past elected treasurer on the Paris Township board. Surivivors include: his wife, Barbara of the home, a son, Tony Furse and wife June of Ottawa, Kansas; a daughter, Tracy Slaughter, and husband Les of Corsicana, Texas; a son in law Gary Mace of St Joseph, Missouri, four grandchildren, Bailey Mace of Weatherby, Missouri, Alexander, Abigail and Antony Furse of Burlington, Kansas; two sisters, Maxine Breuel of Lenexa, Kansas and twin Ruth Mae Harrison of Olathe, Kansas. Stacey was preceded in death by his parents, and by a daughter, Trenda Mace on August 24, 2009. Following cremation, memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 11, 2010 at Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home, Mound City, Kansas. Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 pm on Sunday, January 10, 2010 at the funeral home. Private inurnment will occur at a later time at the Mount Carmel Cemetery northeast of Mound City, Kansas.
