Shirley Lou Stanbrough, age 68 of Kansas City, Missouri died Thursday November 1, 2012 at Saint Luke's East Hospital in Lee''s Summit, Missouri. She was born on February 8, 1944 at Mound City, Kansas the daughter of Elwood and Armintha Towle Stanbrough. Shirley graduated from Kansas State College of Pittsburg in Pittsburg, Kansas with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She worked as a teacher and for Olin Corporation at the Lake City Ammunition Plant in Independence, Missouri in the water treatment area. She was an avid sports fan, especially KU basketball. She played basketball and softball during college and after college played on teams in the Kansas City area. She loved her animals and was involved in different animal rescue groups. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Eugene and Lloyd Stanbrough, and two sisters, Vera Murray and Ruth Harlow. Survivors include a brother-in-law, Frank Harlow, two sisters-in-law, Esther and Charlene Stanbrough, five nephews, seven nieces, many friends and her faithful animal companions. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday November 7, 2012 at the Woodland Cemetery in Mound City.
