Ruby LaVaughn Baker, 98, of Mound City, Kansas, died Sunday, March 18, 2012 at Prescott Countryview Nursing Home, Prescott, Kansas. She was born November 26, 1913 in Parker, Kansas, the daughter of Thomas and Lillie Olive McCarty Cockran. Ruby was a 1933 graduate of Parker High School. She worked for Southwestern Bell in Parker for 7 years. She married Earl Baker on August 4, 1937 at Paola, Kansas. They were married for 39 years. Earl preceded her in 1975. Except for 2 years in California while Earl was in the service, her entire life was spent in Parker. Ruby was a member of the Parker Christian Church (then Osawatomie Church of Christ) and a life member of Eastern Star. She was preceded in death also by her parents; a brother, Lloyd Cockran; and a sister, Alberta Mark. Survivors include a sister, Wilma Dill and four nieces; Michelle Harris, Patrice Cross, Colleen Suddock and Debbie Nickelson. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, March 22, 2012 at the Goodrich Cemetery, Parker, Kansas. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
