Roy Dee VanSlyke Roy Dee VanSlyke, age 96, Amsterdam, Missouri was born September 9, 1911 near Windsor, Missouri. He was the oldest of seven children born to Ed and Ruth Martin VanSlyke. He departed this life on September 9, 2007 at the Adrian Manor in Adrian, Missouri. Roy was united in marriage to Opal Mae Daniels on October 22, 1934 in the Methodist Church Parsonage in Adrian, Mo. To this union five children were born. Roy and Opal lived in and around Bates County farming for a living. After their health failed they both moved into Adrian Manor Nursing Home where Opal passed away on November, 18, 1998. Also preceding him in death were a son Jack, three granddaughters Alice and Laura VanSlyke, and Debra Nickels, a great grandson Mitchell Gallup, and three sisters Grace Trued, Norma Mendoza, and Ola Rhoades. Roy is survived by a son, Dale VanSlyke and wife Linda of Leawood, Kansas, three daughters Gladys Clark, Adrian Missouri, Vesta Burbank and husband Leonard of Baldwin City, Kansas, Connie Gibson and husband Jimmy of Blue Ridge Texas, a daughter-in-law Doris VanSlyke of Battlefield, Missouri nine grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and eight great great grandchildren, two brothers Louis VanSlyke and Thelma of Woodville, Texas, Jimmy VanSlyke and Pauline of Liberty, Missouri, and sister Marie Gillogly of Harrisonville, Mo. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday September 12, 2007 at the Amsterdam United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Scott Cemetery.
