Roy Shields

Roy A. Shields, 74, passed away at his home on Tuesday, October 4, 2005. he was born June 29, 1931 to Walter and Verna Shields at the family farm outside LaCygne. he graduated from LaCygne rural High School, Fort Scott Community College and Kansas State University where he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He is a 50 year member of LaCygne Lodge #61 AF&AM. Roy was a self-employed entrepreneur in Johnson County for over 30 years before retiring to Mapleton in 1996. He was also a member of the Mapleton United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of over 42 years, Jean Stine Shields, of the home; 2 daughters, Meredith A. Shields of Overland Park, KS and Jennifer L.. Shields of Mapleton, KS and the "light of his life", grandson, Christopher S. Shields of Mapleton, a sister, Fern Tripp of Dinuba, CA; sister-in-laws, Esther Shields of LaCygne, KS and Eunice Bowen of Fresno, CA as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 8, 2005 at the Mapleton United Methodist Church with burial in Jingo Cemetery, rural LaCygne. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Coffel-Schneider-Mangold Funeral Home, LaCygne, KS. The family requests no flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mapleton United Methodist Church or Hospice Care of Kansas.
