Roland Surbaugh

Roland Earl "Rod" Surbaugh, age 79, La Cygne, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2015. He was born on September 28, 1935 at Fontana, Kansas in the Twin Spring Community. He graduated from La Cygne Rural High School in the Class of 1954. He then served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, stationed in both Japan and Korea. He married Norma Jane Johnson on October 23, 1966. To this union three children were born: DeWayne, Rosetta and Andrew. Rod and Norma Jane were involved in activities with the kids including Boy Scouts. During his working career he held several occupations including: Laborers Union Local # 1290, List and Clark, La Cygne Power Plant, National Packing, Glenn Garage, La Cygne Standard Oil, and the La Cygne Lumber Yard. He was very active in the La Cygne Christian Church as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon and Elder. His grandchildren were the joy of his life, one almost born on Rod and Norma Jane''s anniversary. He was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother, Donald Fred, brother Charlie Leonard, sisters: Lillian Averill Sallee, Florance Evelyn Coleman, Zuida Carol Goodall Coleman, infant sister Rose Mary, and brother in law Keith Goodall. He is survived by his wife Norma Jane, sons DeWayne Kevin Surbaugh and wife Pat, Andrew Franklin Surbaugh, daughter, Rosetta Katherine Hood, grandsons, Michael Hamlyn and Brian Lee Hood, four step grandchildren and four step great grandchildren, sister in law Edith Surbaugh, brother in laws, Donald Coleman and Delbert Sallee, and extended family and friends. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, February 7, 2015 at the La Cygne Christian Church. Burial will be in the Oak Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, La Cygne Chapel. Contributions are suggested to the Surbaugh Family.
