Robert Eugene West, age 87, of Blue Mound, Kansas died Friday August 22, 2008. He was born on October 8, 1920 at Blue Mound the son of Archie Clifford and Ethel Ellen Moore West. He graduated from Blue Mound High School in 1938. He married Doris Mae Ellis on March 26, 1944 at Iola, Kansas. She preceded him in death on May 15, 2001. Bob worked as farmer, dairyman, and stockman. He was also a Patriot Seed dealer. He was a member of the Blue Mound United Methodist Church, had served on boards at the Linn County Co-Op and REA. He was also a recipient of the Kansas Bankers Soil Conservation Award. He is survived by four sons: Ralph West and Judy of Dallas, Texas, Willis West and Joyce of Cleveland, Missouri, Brent West of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Phil West of Chanute, Kansas; three daughters: Connie Spillman and Larry of Louisburg, Kansas, Jan Dyer and Dan of Pleasant Hope, Missouri and Ann Rude and Mike of Springfield, Missouri; one sister Shirley Clark of Dallas, Texas; fourteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren and a very special friend, Thelma Troth. He was also preceded in death by a grandson Westley Dyer, one brother Marion West and two sisters Marvelle Ross and Wilma Clark. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday August 26, 2008 at the Blue Mound United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Sunny Slope Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 PM Monday at the Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home in Mound City, Kansas. The family suggests contributions to the United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Society. On line condolences for the family can be left at www.coffelschneider.com.
