Robert Weese

Robert Willis Weese, 93, of Atchison, Kansas, formerly of Mound City, Kansas, died on October 7, 2005. He was born in Topeka, KS, February 1, 1912, to Earnest Willis and Louise Katherine Weickert. He was married April 12, 1934 in Fort Scott, Kansas to Theresa Hensley. One daughter was born of this union, Lynette Weese. Robert entered the Army in 1943 and was assigned to Camp Crowder, MO. He was a cook in the Army for 4 years. Following his active duty, he remained in the Army Reserves for a total of 26 years. During his life time, Robert enjoyed many interests. He did DHIA testing. Through extension work he did soil testing, worked with 4-H kids, and did 4-H judging. Robert enjoyed consulting with the K-State Horticulture department. He was involved in truck gardening and he raised turkeys and some exotic birds. His interests included an active membership with the American Legion, the Poultry Association and the Kansas Nutgrowers Association. From the mid 1950's to 1994, Robert and Theresa owned and operated Weese's Greenhouse south of Mound City. Robert always had a love for gardening and flowers. Anyone could ask him how to "heal" a plant and he'd help to do it for them. In 1994 they retired to Mound City. Robert moved to Atchison when his wife, Theresa, became ill to be near their granddaughter, Mlle and her family. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, 4 sisters, his daughter, son-in-law and 3 grandsons. He will be missed greatly by one granddaughter, Mlle Caudle, her husband, Neil, and 3 great grandchildren, BreAnne, Brandon and Call of Bendena, Kansas. Also many nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at the Federated Church, Mound City, Kansas. Visitation will be from 7-8 PM, Monday at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Mound City. Contributions are suggested to the Federated Church. Interment will be in Woodland Cemetery, Mound City.
