Robert Lee Mangold, 75, LaCygne, Kansas died Sunday August 20, 2006 at his home. He was born January 14, 1931 in Amsterdam, MO, to Lee A. and Ecla Jordan Mangold. He graduated from Amsterdam HS in 1948 and continued his education at Baker University, where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity, graduating in 1952. He attended veterinary school at Kansas State University from 1952 to 1953 until his father passed away in 1953, when he returned to LaCygne. He co-owned and operated Mangold Funeral Homes in LaCygne and Amsterdam as well as operating Amsterdam Sundries from 1953 to 1969. He was a sales representative for Sidewinder Corporation from 1969 to 1971. In 1971, he built and operated the first Mangold's Market, a grocery store located in Lacygne. He later owned stores in Butler, Mo, Pittsburg, Pleasanton and Bronson, KS. He served as Vice-president of the Kansas Funeral Directors' Association in 1968. He was a life member of LaCygne Masonic Lodge, the Linn County Shrine Club, the Fort Scott Scottish Rite,the Kansas York Rite, the Order of Quetazalcoati and Mirza Temple. He was a member of the Mirza Pick-Ups and helped to organize the organize the Mobile Nobels. He served as Potentate of Mirza Temple in 1987 and was honored with a lifetime membership to the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry in 2003. He served on the Associated Grocers Board of Directors from 1981 to 1986. He served on the Swan Manor Nursing Home Board of Directors, the LaCygne City Council, the Linn County Economic Development Board, the Methodist Church Board, the LaHarper Heights Board, and the LaCygne Medical Board. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church at LaCygne. Bob married Dorothy Ann Spruell in Amsterdam, Missouri who survives him of the home. Other survivors include four sons; Rod Mangold & Deb of Pleasanton, Kansas; Larry Fritts & Deanna of Arley, Alabama; Gordon Fritts of Billonia, Arkansas and Mark Fritts of Pleasanton, Kansas; four daughters, Diana Taylor & Don of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Connie Rodriguez & Richard of Gastonia, North Carolina, Mitzi L. Scriven of Branson, Missouri and Leslie Best & Gayle of Arley, Alabama; 16 Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday August 23, at the United Methodist Church in LaCygne, Kansas. Burial will be in the Oak Lawn Cemetery at LaCygne. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 PM Tuesday August 22 at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, LaCygne. Masonic service will be held at 6 PM before visitation. Bob will lie in state at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel until 10:45 AM Wednesday.
