Robert (Bob) Cooper died in Chapel Hill, NC after a long illness on July 13 2015 at age 84. Born in Kansas City MO in 1931, the son of Harry and Agnes Bickford Cooper. He moved to Raleigh where his father served as chairman of the music department at Meredith College. He received his BA from Harvard in 1952 and JD from the University of North Carolina in 1955. He established a law practice in Chapel Hill, retiring in 2005. He served as president of the Orange County Young Democratic Club, chairman of the Orange County Bar Association, and was active in local politics. A member of the Chapel Hill Religious Society of Friends, he is survived by his daughter Alexandra Sheaves , son Thomas Cooper, sister Alice Potter, three grandchildren, and former wife Asta Crowe. A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, July 19, 2 p.m., at the Chapel Hill Friends Meeting, 531 Raleigh Rd., Chapel Hill 27514. A graveside service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at the Woodland Cemetery in Mound City, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Raleigh Hospice (Transitions Life Care, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh NC 27607), or Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org).
