Richard Shomaker

Richard Dean Shomaker, age 62 of Mound City, Kansas died Saturday May 22, 2010 at the Saint Francis Hospital at Wichita, Kansas. He was born on January 12, 1948 at Kansas City, Kansas the son of Ellsworth Leroy and Catherine Laverne Skinner Shomaker. Richard was a veteran serving in the Vietnam War with the United States Army; he retired from the army with the rank of CW3 Warrants officer. Richard married Connie Powell on January 29, 1971 in Burlington, Colorado. He was a member of the VFW at Desoto, Kansas, and enjoyed working on antique cars. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother; Howard Shomaker, two sisters; Glenda Herbst, and Georgette Kluge. Survivors include his wife Connie of Mound City, Kansas, three sons; W.M. (Mark) Shomaker and wife Lacey of Manhattan, Kansas, Shawn Shomaker and wife Amy of Overland Park, Kansas, and Phillip Shomaker of Leavenworth, Kansas, three daughters; Faynett Anderson of Atchison, Kansas, Amber Medlen and Husband Chris of Leavenworth, Kansas, and Ana Shomaker of Leavenworth, Kansas, five grandchildren, BriAnna Shomaker, Kiersten Anderson, Daylen Medlen, Alexis Shomaker, and Carson Shomaker. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday May 26, 2010 at the Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home Mound City, Kansas. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to service time Wednesday May 26, 2010 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Woodland Cemetery at Mound City, Kansas.
