Ray Eldon Funk, age 78, of Sugar Valley Lakes, near Mound City, Kansas, passed away Monday, October 2, 2023. He was born on November 5, 1944 in Kansas City, Missouri the son of William T. Funk Jr. and Ruth Byerley Funk. Ray graduated from Parker High School and then attended Kansas State Teachers College at Pittsburg where he received a Bachelor's Degree. He later attended Kansas State Teachers College at Emporia obtaining a Master's Degree in Education and Counseling. Ray was united in marriage to Ruth Schlotzhauer on December 24, 1964 in Garnett, Kansas. He worked primarily in the field of education, beginning as a teacher and finishing his career in administration as a high school principal. He attended the First Baptist Church of Mound City and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Mound City. Ray enjoyed playing golf as well as hunting, but his favorite pastime was probably going to pawn shops looking for a bargain he couldn't resist.. He was preceded in death by his parents. Ray is survived by his wife, Ruth, a son, Martin Funk and wife Linda, and two grandchildren, Dylan Funk and wife Jenny, and Abbegale Funk Splechter and husband Hayden.
Visitation will be held from 10 am to 11:30 am Saturday, October 21, at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Mound City Chapel. A memorial service will follow the visitation beginning at 11:30am at the Mound City Chapel. Memorial contributions are suggested to Regina's Rescue, c/o Schneider Funeral Home, P.O.
