Ottilie Smith

Ottilie "Tillie" Pauline Smith, 82 of Pleasanton, Kansas, died Monday, August 27, 2007 at University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas. She was born December 21, 1924 in Frankfurt, Germany, the daughter of Justis and Charlotte Desch Giehs. As a young woman, she was drafted into the German Army. She married Dale Smith on July 20, 1948 in Frankfurt, Germany. He preceded her in death on July 8, 2002. Tillie became an American citizen in 1959. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Order of Eastern Star. She was preceded in death also by her parents and one sister, Marie Iber. Survivors include two sons, Harold Smith & Phyllis of Fort Scott, Kansas and John Smith & Janet of Pleasanton, Kansas; one daughter, Rita Walrod & David of Pleasanton, Kansas; one brother, Berthold Giehs of Fochenhime, Germany; one sister, Inge Cress of Bod Hamburg, Germany; grandchildren, Michelle Walrod, Marsha Milstead, Brandon and Jason Smith, Tara and Tori Fleck and great grandchildren, Hunter Milstead and Ava Jade Edwards. Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, August 31, 2007 at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Pleasanton, Kansas. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time at the chapel. Contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Society. Interment will be in the Woodland Cemetery, Mound City, Kansas.
