Nellie Newman

Nellie Ione Newman age 91, of Paola, Kansas formerly of Blue Mound , Kansas died Sunday July 3, 2011 at the Life Care Center in Osawatomie, Kansas. She was born on August 3, 1919 in Xenia, Kansas the daughter of Clarence and Corda Jackson Townsley. She was a 1937 graduate of Blue Mound High School, she married Oran "Bud" Newman on March 2, 1940 in Nevada, Missouri he preceded her in death on March 22, 1991. Nellie worked as a PA3 Nurse at the state hospital in Osawatomie, Kansas and later for the SRS office in Mound City, Kansas until her retirement. She was a member of the Stitch and Chatter Club of Blue Mound, and the National Quilters Association. Nellie is also preceded in death by her parents three bothers; Frank , Lindel, and Donald Townsley, and three sisters; Betty Brillhart, Vyrla Miller, and Elma Gay. She is survived by two sons; Don Newman and wife Linda of Louisburg, Kansas, and Tom Newman and wife Jane of Paola, Kansas, two daughters; Lolita Hall and Husband Darren of Osawatomie, and Lynette Mersman and husband Tom of Paola, Kansas, a brother Clarence Townsley, and two sisters; Dorothy Glidden, and Joan Scott., seven grandchildren Robin, Bret, Brian, Stephanie, Shawna, Bill, and Julie, 15 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday July 7, 2011 at the United Methodist Church in Blue Mound, Kansas. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday July 6, 2011 at the Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home Mound City, Kansas. Burial will be in the Sunny Slope Cemetery Blue Mound.
