Melvin Smith, age 77, of Blue Mound, Kansas died Saturday December 15, 2007 at the Indian Meadows Nursing Home in Overland Park Kansas. He was born on January 23, 1930 in Blue Mound, Kansas, the son of Richard and Louisa Scobee Smith. He Graduated from Blue Mound High School and attended Allen County Community College. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the United States Navy. He was united in marriage to Kathryn Newman on May 27, 1956 in Jingo, Kansas. Melvin worked as a farmer, a Moorman feed representative, and a school bus driver for Blue mound and later USD 346 were he served on the board. He was a member of the Linn County fair board, the Masonic lodge in Blue Mound, and the Lions Club and served as a 4H leader. He also was a baseball coach for Blue Mound and Pleasanton. Preceding him in death are his parents one brother and four sisters. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn of Blue Mound, Kansas, three daughters, Malinda Conley and Stephen of Blue Mound, Kansas, Marilyn Duggins of Pleasanton, Kansas, Myrna Golden and Greg, of Carthage, Missouri, Two sons Melvin Richard Smith and Melissa of Mulberry Kansas, Micheal Smith and Marcia of Wellsville, Kansas, nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, five brothers, and 4 sisters. Funeral services with be held at 11 am Thursday December 20, 2007 at the Blue Mound Federated Church. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 pm Wednesday December 19 at the Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home in Mound City. Burial will be at the Sunny Slope Cemetery in Blue Mound.
