Maxine Camden, age 85, LaCygne, Kansas formerly of Drexel, Missouri passed away on Tuesday February 26, 2013. She was born on April 3, 1927 at Dix, Nebraska the daughter of Verne and Christina Kronberg Hanthorne. She married Melvin Camden on October 26, 1946. He preceded her in death on September 19, 2001. Also preceding her was a brother, Lloyd Hanthorne and a sister Hazel Poirrier and a son in law William Strausbaugh. Maxine lived most of her life in Drexel, Missouri. She was active as a 4 H leader, Lisle Home Club, and worked as a cook in the Drexel area. She loved to travel, crochet and collected elephants. She and Melvin moved to the LaCygne area in 1991. She retired as a cook from Wildwood Education Center. Maxine is survived by her four daughters: Gloria Long, Ruth Becker, Judy Camden and Melodie Strausbaugh; three sisters: Helen Carlson, Barbara Voss, Gladys Martin, and many grand and great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Monday March 4, 2013 at the New Lancaster United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the New Lancaster Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 PM Sunday, March 3 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, LaCygne Chapel. The family suggests contributions to Alzheimer''s Foundation.
