Martha Mayes

Martha Victoria Mayes, age 76 of La Cygne, Kansas died Tuesday August 28, 2012 at her home. She was born on January 12 1936, at Chicago, Illinois. Martha worked as a teacher for six years in Evansville, Indiana. She also worked as a cook at Cabool Nursing Home in Houston, Missouri, and was a homemaker raising her three children. Later in life she traveled singing at different churches and nursing homes. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, and a son Ronald Lee Mayes. Survivors include a son Charlie Mayes, a daughter Colleen Mayes, ten grandchildren and a close companion Dewey Shasteen. Per Martha's wishes there was cremation and a private family service will be held at a later date. Contributions are suggested to the Martha Mayes Memorial Fund left in C/O the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory P.O. box 304 La Cygne, Kansas 66040.
