Marilyn Lee Northrop, 84, of Mound City, Kansas died at 1:50 am on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Prescott Country View Nursing Home, Prescott, Kansas. Marilyn was born March 7, 1930 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Merlin and Leeyota (Lyon) Smith. She graduated from high school in Woodbine, Iowa. Marilyn attended college studying criminology. She had held many types of jobs over the years, finally retiring from Food Fair in Mound City. Marilyn was very active in the VFW Auxiliary. She had served as president of the Ottawa chapter and had served for several years as the Director of Community Service for VFW district. Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Northrop on May 8, 1990, and one daughter, Roxann Lee (Hobbs) Glissendorf. Marilyn is survived by one son, Shawn Lee Hobbs of Mound City; one sister, Jodi Hickey of Woodbine, Iowa; two grandchildren, Rhiannon Shawn Glissendorf and Elsa Sylvia Glissendorf; one great-grandchild; and her significant other, Robert S. Tastad of Mound City. The family suggests memorials to COPD Foundation in care of the funeral home. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Monday, January 19, 2015 at Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory Mound City Chapel, Mound City, Kansas. A graveside memorial service will be at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Fort Scott National Cemetery, Fort Scott, Kansas.
