Lora Herman

December 22, 1927 — November 26, 2014

Lora Lou Herman of Central City, Kentucky, formerly of Linn County, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at 12:35 AM at nearly 87 years of age. Lora Lou was born in Kenton, Oklahoma, December 22, 1927. The family eventually moved to Mound City, Kansas, where she spent most of her life. She met the love of her life, John Herman, while in high school. They married in 1946, settled on a farm in the Farlinville community, and raised their three children. After her husband died, Lora moved to Central City, Kentucky. Like many who were raised during the depression, Lora began working at a young age. Her work life spanned a variety of positions from a store clerk to deputy county treasurer to school administration. She was actively involved with many community organizations, and was a member of the Mound City Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She joined the Green River Chapel Church in Central City. She inspired many with her faith and commitment. Lora is survived by her three children, John Wayne Herman and daughter-in-law Iris of San Diego; Lora Jane Riopel and son-in-law Dave of Cupertino, California; and Joe Eddy Herman and daughter-in-law Sandy of Central City, Kentucky; one brother, William "Bill" Myers Eddy of San Diego, California; her grandchildren Chasity Edmonds of Central City, Keane Herman of Carshalton, England, Jenny Pierce of San Diego, California, Chandra Herman Younger of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Carrie Mousseau of Palo Alto, California and John Riopel of Patterson, California; and seven great-grandchildren Dillan Edmonds, Dominic Herman-Day, Anthony Herman, Chandler Edmonds, Jenny Mousseau, Autumn Pierce, and Ella Younger. Her children knew her as strong in her faith, loving, independent, spunky, and fun. Her husband used to say that life with her was always interesting. She will be missed. Graveside services will be Monday, December 1, 2014, at 10:00AM at Woodland Cemetery in Mound City. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Mound City Chapel in Mound City.
