Lillian Vivian Ferguson, age 89, loving wife and mother, peacefully passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2008, at her home in LaCygne, Kansas. Vivian was born April 11, 1919, to William Virgil Girten and Elizabeth Ann Gough in Kansas City, Kansas. She was baptized at St. Thomas the Apostle in Kansas City, Kansas on April 20, 1919. She graduated from St. Thomas Academy and attended Ward High School. Vivian worked at the Lake City Ammunition plant during World War II. She was an excellent athlete, as bowling and softball were her specialties. In the 1960's Vivian bowled on a women's traveling league. After several years of league play, she because an instructor at the Roe Lanes in Mission, Kansas. She was very active in Kansas City Politics. Vivian also has a passion for ballroom dancing and continued dancing throughout her life. On June 4, 1945, Vivian was wed to Delmer H. Ferguson, in Kansas City, Kansas after a 10 year courtship. They made this their home until moving to LaCygne, in 1975. They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this month. After their 3 children were born, Vivian became a stay at home mom, and her family was her ultimate enjoyment in life. She was a devoted wife, incredible mother, and perfect grandmother with a strong religious belief. Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, and two sisters. She is survived by her husband, Delmer H. Ferguson, sister Mary Harris of Kansas City, daughter, Christine MaCoubrie, of Blue Mound Kansas, daughter, Darlene L. Ferguson Cox and husband Wayne Cox, of LaCygne, son Henry V. Ferguson and wife Sally, of LaCygne, five grandchildren, Michael Ortego, John Henry "Buck" Ortego, Jesse Delmer Cox, Joseph Henry MaCoubrie and Matthew Blake Ferguson, a granddaughter Cherie D. DeCoster, and husband Frank, two great granddaughters, Kayla and Josie DeCoster, sister-in-laws, Vercilla Ferguson and Helen White and husband Fred, and a host of family and friends . The family gives special thanks to the Lenexa Hospice for their care and attention that was received by the Ferguson family. An extra special thanks is extended to Brenda Johnson for her love and care giving skills over the past several months. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Lenexa Hospice. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 A.M., Thursday June 26, 2008 at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in LaCygne, Kansas. Burial will be in the Oak Lawn Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 P.M. Wednesday at the Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home in LaCygne. Visitation will follow until 8 PM. Contributions are suggested to the Lenexa Hospice.
