LILA WOOD Lila Mae Wood, 91, of Prescott, Kansas, died Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at Mercy Health Center, Fort Scott, Kansas. She was born March 14, 1918 to Elias & Leona Bradley Bloomfield on a farm east of Prescott. She grew up on the farm and attended schools in the rural area and graduated from Prescott High School in 1935. She then attended Fort Scott Community College, graduating in 1938. She taught school in the rural schools and in Prescott & Pleasanton, Kansas. She was a member of the Prescott United Methodist Church and for many years worked with the youth and also held an office in the United Methodist Womens group of the church. She married Wilburn L. "Wib" Wood on June 15, 1942. He was serving during World War II at the time and she continued teaching until his return. Upon his return, they started farming and farmed for many years while raising their family. When the family was nearly grown, she went back to work in the Mound City School system and worked until her retirement in 1980. After many years on the farm, they sold it and retired to Prescott, Kansas. Lila was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wilburn "Wib" Wood, a daughter-in-law, Jan Wood, one sister, one brother and a nephew. Survivors include her son, Gary Wood of Prescott, Kansas, Bob Wood & wife, Carol of Mound City, Kansas; a daughter, Kay Lyons & husband, Don of Peoria, Arizona, a sister, Laurel White of Prescott, Kansas; 5 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. She loved her family and tried to be a good wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 21 at the Prescott United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until service time at the church. Contributions are suggested to the Prescott United Methodist Church or Prescott Countryview Nursing Home.
