Leta Herboldsheimer, age 100, Mapleton, Kansas passed away Monday, January 9, 2023 at her home. She was born on August 27, 1922 in Mexico, Missouri the daughter of Alpha and Clara (Daniels) Durham. She was united in marriage to Lewis Cole. To this union, four children were born. She later married Lou Herboldsheimer. They had two children. Lou preceded Leta in death. Leta worked at many different jobs during her career. Some of these included a pickle factory, manager at Velvet Freeze Ice Cream, farmwife on the dairy farm, medication aid, and upholstered hassocks. She sold goods at the Fort Scott farmer's market where she was known as the Pie Lady. She liked to play bingo and other games and was active roller skating and driving go karts into her eighties. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Janice Hendricks, a brother, Francis Owen Durham, a sister, Rosella Fitch, and a grandson, Brett. Leta is survived by five daughters, Alice Christianson, Rose Mary Wickersham, Glenna Bowman, Cathy Ramirez, and Linda Free, eleven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 2 pm Saturday, January 14, 2023 at the Mapleton United Methodist Church. Burial in the Mapleton Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm Friday, January 13 at the Schneider Funeral Home, Mound City Chapel.
