Leonard James Long, age 86, LaCygne, Kansas died Thursday June 2, 2011 at his son's home in LaCygne. He was born in Sugar Creek Township, Miami County, Kansas on July 17, 1924 the son of George Ivan and Norma Alvena Russell Long. He married Edith Pearl Eastwood and to this union four children were born. Leonard worked as a farmer and in the construction industry, with much time devoted to laying fiber optic cable for telephone companies. Leonard was an Army Veteran of World War II, a member of the LaCygne Christian Church and a former member of the American Legion. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Long, and a sister Berniece Ryan. He is survived by a son, Jerry Long of LaCygne, Kansas, three daughters: Judy Patterson of LaCygne, Kansas, Joy Saxton of Lee's Summit, Missouri and Jo Ann Burtness of Louisburg, North Carolina, two brothers, Harold and George Long, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Thursday June 9, 2011 at the Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home in LaCygne, Kansas. Burial will be in the Oak Lawn Cemetery, LaCygne.
