Leonard Gorter

Leonard Gorter, 80, of Linn Valley, Kansas passed away on August 4, 2012, at the Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, KS. He was born on February 20, 1932, to William and Elizabeth Gorter in Doon, IA. On April 9, 1954, he married June Mans in Volga, SD.He was an Army Veteran serving his country during the Korean War. Leonard was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, who loved spending time with family. He enjoyed fishing and telling jokes, was an active member in the Linn Valley community and was loved by many. Leonard is survived by his wife June; two sons, Tim Gorter of Linn Valley, Todd Gorter and Karen of Olathe, KS; three daughters, Robin Martin and Crystal Gorter both of Westminster, CO, Pennie and Ron Mesmer of Leawood, KS; two brothers, Andrew and Ardell Gorter; two sisters, Cora Van Surksum and Betty Gorter; ten grandchildren, Aaron, Brian and Carly Mesmer; Mikah, Kirby and Kelsey Martin; Brandon, Nicole, Paige and Jason Gorter; three great grandchildren, Asher, Liliana and Charlotte Mesmer, with two more expected in October. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Elizabeth (Lems) Gorter and a brother Lawrence Gorter. Funeral service will be10:30 AM Wednesday August 22, 2012 at the Linn Valley Community Church. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the Linn Valley Community Church.
