Kenneth Eugene Houtman, age 75, Mound City, Kansasdied Saturday, January 7, 2012, at the Kansas City Hospice House. He was born on February 20, 1936, at Kansas City, Kansas, the son of John and Frieda Anders Houtman. He was an Army veteran. Ken married Judy Graham on March 15, 1959, in Hawaii. He worked in operations for Braniff Airlines and then he and Judy owned and operated Mound City Garden Center. He was a forty year member of St. John Lutheran Church in Kailua, Hawaii, and an associate member of the Mound City United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Nicholas, infant brothers Clarence and John, and brothers Louis, Alvin, and Maurice. Ken is survived by his wife, Judy, of the home; three daughters Anne Houtman Prouty (Will) of Pittsford, New York; Elaine Houtman Byron (Clark) of Savannah, Georgia; and Kathy Houtman of Paola, Kansas; three grandchildren,Sarah Carvalho, Abigail Houtman Inman, and Benjamin Inman Houtman; one brother Orville Houtman; three sisters, Alsine Augustine, Viola Vogel (Luther), and Lucille Rule (Ron); three cousins, Velma Wuthnow, Norman Anders andDwayne Anders; sisters-in-law, Lynn Schneider (Carl), and Janel Mosley (Cliff); and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2012, at the Mound City United Methodist Church.
