John Barnes

John Eldon Barnes, age 82, Mound City, Kansas died Sunday March 21, 2010. He was born on December 19, 1927 near Centerville, Kansas the son of John Robert and Martha Ellen Burkhead Barnes. He graduated from Mound City High School in the Class of 1945. He married Helen Hendrix on July 23, 1950 at the Federated Church in Mound City. John farmed and ran a lime and fertilizer business. He was a member of the Mound City United Methodist Church having served on the board and as a trustee. He was also a member of the Mound City Historical Society, fifty year member of the Mound City Masonic Lodge, and the Order of Eastern Star. He was preceded in death by one brother, Howard Barnes, and a grandson Jeremy Barnes. He is survived by his wife Helen of the home, three sons, James Eldon Barnes and Debbie of Ash Grove, Missouri, Joe Lee Barnes and Arloa of Smith Center, Kansas, Jay Howard Barnes and Johnna of Columbus, Ohio; a daughter Kerrie Ellen Morrell and Richard of Warrensburg, Missouri, twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday March 24, 2010 at the Mound City United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 PM Tuesday at the Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home in Mound City.
