Jimmy Fleming

July 20, 1942 — April 17, 2013

Jimmy Ray Fleming, age 70 of La Cygne, died April 17, 2013 at the Life Care Nursing Home in Osawatomie. Jim was born 3 ½ miles east of Amoret , MO on July 20, 1942 the sixth child of Earl and Nellie Bishop Fleming. He grew up around Amoret and the Bates County area. Jim worked for Tom Daniels and Junior Payne before moving to La Cygne with the rest of the family in 1956. Upon moving to Kansas he worked for Fred and Clayton Carothers until 1962 when he started working for the Teagarden Family until 1988. He then started a new career with the Prairie View School District. At PV he collected many honors. He retired from the Kansas National Guard after serving 21 years where other honors were bestowed on him. No one took more pride in their work as Jim. He was dependable, hard working, and always had a story to tell. His evenings were spent reading books. His main interest was American history and war stories. His vast knowledge on these subjects was astounding. He could tell you dates and types of planes that were pertinent to any time period. He enjoyed collecting stamps, coins, and toy tractors. Preceding him in death were his parents, one bother William (Bill), a brother in-law Fred Bland, a niece Julie Fleming and nephew Billy Fleming. Left to mourn his passing are his sisters; Sue Fleming, Bonnie Bland, Jessie Russell, and Hazel (Kenneth) Robbins and his brothers; Edward (Jewell), Joe (Vicky), Wilbur (Dee) Fleming with many nieces and nephews. Pastor Roger Robertson will conduct the service with Bob Curry presenting the special music at 10:00 am Tuesday April, 23, 2013 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory La Cygne Chapel. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Monday April 22, 2013 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory La Cygne Chapel. Burial will be in the Benjamin Cemetery near Amoret, Missouri with his twelve nephews acting as casket bearers. The family suggests contributions to the La Cygne Public Library and may be left in c/o the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory P.O. box 304 La Cygne, Kansas 66040. Arrangements: Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory La Cygne Chapel.
