Jenabelle James

d. May 19, 2010

Mrs. Jenabelle (Jan) James, age 70, of LaCygne Kansas, formerly of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2010 after a courageous fight with cancer at home surrounded by her family. Jan is survived by her husband Robert of the home, a daughter Donna Cowden and husband Gary, of Kansas City, MO, Granddaughter Brianne Murphy and husband Tyson, of Miami, OK, Grandson Stephen Cowden and wife Heather of Waco, TX, Great Granddaughter Kylee Murphy of Miami, OK, a brother Jimmy Keith of Willard, MO, and a very special Uncle, Joe and wife Leita of Yuma, Arizona/Buhler, Kansas. She was preceded in death by a daughter Danna Hohimer, and husband Robert O. Allen of Kansas City, MO, and parents Robert and Willa Keith of Bolivar, MO. She was born in Huron, Missouri (near Bolivar). She attended and graduated from Halfway, Missouri High School. She later moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where she worked as a dental assistant for many years and she then retired from TWA in 2002. During her retirement Jan enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and the wonders of nature that God created. She was baptized, and committed her earthly life to God at the age of thirteen, and walked the straight and narrow road of a Christian until He called her home. Jan was meek and humble in character, but strong in trusting in the promises of God, and would always try to look for a spiritual upside in the trials she faced. She belonged to Calvary Baptist Church of LaCygne, KS, where she was a member of the American Baptist Women's Ministries (ABWM). Jan would often say that the Thursday morning Bible Study with the women gave her a much needed weekly spiritual boost. The family would like to thank the women of ABWM, especially Mrs. Doris Bechtel, who prepared and gave the Bible lessons. Also thanks to the Christian community for its prayers, support and the many cards that were received from near and from afar. The cards made the days brighter, and allowed Jan to stay connected with the church. We would like to recognize the KU Cancer Center for their diligent quest to defeat Jan's illness, The American Cancer Society /Hope Lodge of Kansas City, Missouri for their hospitality, and the staff at Midland Hospice Care for their care, compassion, patience, and professionalism. Jan regularly commented on how much more difficult life would be without people using their God given gifts to help one another when the trials of life come pouring down, Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at Calvary Baptist Church, LaCygne, KS. Visitation will be one hour before the services at the church. Burial service 2:30 P.M. Fort Scott National Cemetery. The family suggests contributions be made to the ABWM, at Calvary Baptist Church, LaCygne, KS.
