Irene Englis, age 85, passed away Saturday, September 2, 2006 at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri. She was born June 9, 1921 in Jingo, Kansas the daughter of Charles and Ruth Madin Van Vlack. She attended Jingo grade school. As a young child she spent much of her time with her grandpa and grandma Van Vlack in LaCygne and spoke many times of the good memories there. On July 16, 1941 she married Willus Lee Englis at her parents home near Jingo. This year they celebrated 65 years together. Irene was a mother and a homemaker. She loved gardening and sewing and for many years did sewing for many far and near. She was an avid quilter and loved giving her quilts to her daughter Kay, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always made sure every family member had a plain angel food cake for their birthday. Family was very important and she loved having them near always putting them before herself. She also worked several years in the LaCygne library. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Loren and two brothers and one sister in infancy. She is survived by her husband Willus Lee, daughter Kay Cummings and husband Paul of Amsterdam, Missouri; grandchildren Lee and Tammy Cummings of Amsterdam and Sue and Jim Sanders of Parkville, Missouri; great grandchildren Alisia and Ross Dugan of Butler, Missouri, Billy Cummings of Amsterdam, Missouri, James and David Sanders of Parkville, Missouri, a great great granddaughter Rachel Dugan, one sister Gloria Strange of LaCygne, Kansas, one brother Charles (Kid) Van Vlack of West Drexel, Kansas, one sister-in-law Toby Van Vlack of LaCygne, Kansas and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, LaCygne, Kansas. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the chapel. Burial will be at the New Lancaster Cemetery. Family suggest contributions can be made to either the LaCygne Library Building Fund or to donor's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home, LaCygne, Kansas.
