Howard Robert Barnes, age 70, of Mound City, Kansas, died Sunday, January 15, 2006 at Olathe Medical Center, in Olathe, Kansas. He was born August 1, 1935 in Wichita, Kansas to J. Robert and Martha Ellen Burkhead Barnes. Howard graduated from Mound City High School in 1953. On October 20, 1963, Howard was united in marriage to Sharon Wimberly at the First Christian Church in Mena, Arkansas. Howard worked for rock quarries in the area as a scale man and heavy equipment operator retiring from Hunt Midwest and also farmed part time. He was a member of the Mound City Federated Church where he was past Elder and Chairman of the Board, Masonic Lodge in Mound City, Scottish Rite Consistory in Fort Scott, Kansas, Mirza Temple Shrine in Pittsburg, Kansas. Howard was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Sharon of the home, two sons and their families; Kevin and Tonya Barnes and their son, Jonathon of Yates Center, Kansas, Paul and Kelly Barnes and their children Jonah and Delaney, all of Olathe, Kansas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 19, 2006 at the Federated Church in Mound City. Visitation will be from 7-8 PM, Wednesday at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel in Mound City. Burial will be in the Woodland Cemetery in Mound City. Family suggests contributions to the Federated Church in Mound City.
