Hazel Johnston

Hazel Lafern Johnston, 89, of Blue Mound, Kansas, died Monday, June 13, 2005 at Medicalodge Nursing Home, Fort Scott, Kansas. She was born June 13, 1916 in Denver, Colorado, the daughter of Forrest Allen and Edna Myrtle Vance Spencer. She was married to Robert Johnston Jr. on March 6, 1937 and to this union one son and three daughters were born. Hazel was a homemaker who enjoyed her flowers and loved to cook. Some of her specialties were cookies, cinnamon rolls and donuts, bread, homemade ice cream and Pond Horse. She was preceded in death by her son, Forrest "Bud" Johnston who died in 1993 and three brothers, Elmer, Howard and Charles Spencer; and three great grandchildren. Survivors include her three daughters, Leona Dreyer of Salina, Kansas; Edna F. Stein of Claremore, Oklahoma and Gertrude Harper of Fort Scott, Kansas; ten grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 18, 2005 at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Mound City, Kansas. Visitation will be from 7-8 PM, Friday at the chapel. Contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Interment will be in Curry Cemetery, Mound City, KS.
