Hazel Leucille "Lucy" Jay, 89, of Altoona, Kansas, formerly of Hume, Missouri, died Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at Wilson Medical Center, Neodesha, Kansas. She was born October 11, 1922 in Hume, Missouri, the daughter of Harley and Willie Ruth Handly Kleitz. Lucille went to grade school in Hume, MO, and Jr. High and High School in Kansas City, MO. She was a homemaker, learning all of the art of canning, baking and making candies. She loved flowers, especially her Tulips and Iris and enjoyed watching the birds. In her motherhood she reared her children in the country. The farming included milking cows on a dairy farm, raising cattle, growing crops to feed the cattle and huge vegetable gardens to feed the children. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; Dawson Williams, Lloyd Pilcher and James Jay; one son, Jim Williams, one daughter, Judy Hampton; one brother, John Kleitz ; two sisters, Helen Bradley and Mary Belle; and a grandchild, Kaleigh. Survivors include four sons; Mike Williams & Sally of Nevada, Missouri, John Williams & Cathy of Liberal, Missouri, Bill Williams & Katie of Milo, Missouri and Harold Pilcher & Irmie of Elgin, Oklahoma; four daughters; Shirley Sumner of Lamar, Missouri, Maggie Stout of Lenexa, Kansas, Kathy Louvier & Ed of Nevada, Missouri and Sarah Fay & Ron of Topeka, Kansas; twenty-six grandchildren; thirty six great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren and three "on the way". Services will be held at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, March 3, 2012 at the Hume Christian Church, Hume, Missouri. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until service time at the church.
