Gladys Carbon, age 100, of Mound City, Kansas died Thursday February 28, 2008 at the St Joseph Health Center in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born on February 1, 1908 near Farlinville, Kansas the daughter of Benjamin and Olive Silsby West. She graduated from Mound City High School and Pittsburg State University. She taught in elementary schools for thirty-five years in Linn County, Kansas. She was a member of the Federated Church in Mound City, an Honorary Life Member of Kansas National Education Association. Gladys married Henry Carbon on June 18, 1933. He preceded her in death on March 12, 1990. Also preceding her were three brothers: Robley, Howard and Bernard West, and five sisters: Susie Murray, Hazel Seales, Rita Sisson, Velma Sadler and Ruth Klopfenstein. Survivors include one son Roger Carbon and wife Jennie of Mound City, eight grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Monday March 3, 2008 at the Federated Church in Mound City, Kansas. Burial will be in the Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 PM Sunday at the Federated Church. The family suggests contributions to the Federated Church Building Fund.
