George Ernest Thomas, age 95, Coffeyville, Kansas, formerly of Prescott, Mound City and LaHarpe, Kansas died Saturday November 15, 2008 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville. He was born in rural Pleasanton, Kansas on December 1, 1912 the son of James and Emma Cummins Thomas. He graduated from Pleasanton High School and was an Army World War II veteran serving as a quarter master and doing tours in North Africa and Italy. He married Julia Golemboski on December 31, 1948 at Colby, Kansas. George was a member of the Roman Catholic Church and the LaHarpe VFW. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother James, four sisters: Clara Ralph, Diora McKimmey, Florence Doudna and Leona Mitchell, and two grandchildren. He is survived by four sons: William Thomas and Frederick Thomas and wife Phyllis of Salina, Kansas, Gary Thomas of Rhinelander, Wisconsin, and Glenn Thomas and wife Connie of Junction City, Kansas; four daughters: Janet Rau and husband Maurice of Elk City, Kansas, Ethel McDaniel and husband Bill of Carbondale, Kansas, Wanda Rudiger of Chino Valley, Arizona and Rose Thomas of Calhoun, Georgia; one sister Ethel Makemson, sixteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday November 19, 2008 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mound City. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be held at 10 AM in the church hall. A rosary will be recited at 10:30 at the church.
