Gene Thornton

GENE THORNTON Gene John Thornton, 74, of Amoret, Missouri, died Friday, July 27, 2007 at St. Johns Medical Center, Joplin, Missouri. He was born November 17, 1932 in Siloam Springs, Missouri, the son of John and Ada Pittman Thornton. He married Jean Mears on January 28, 1955 at West Plains, Missouri. Gene was a mineworker with P&M Coal Company and a member of the United Mine Workers Association. He was a veteran, serving in the United States Navy. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Roger Thornton who died in 1992 and a sister, Orpha Clinton. Survivors include his wife, Jean of the home; two daughters, Diane Black and Renee Phillips, both of Amoret, Missouri; two brothers, Marvin and Loyd Thornton; four sisters, Wanda Towel, Opal Clinton, Christine Altermatt and Nola White; four grandchildren and one great grandchild. Cremation with memorial services to be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, August 1, 2007 at the Benjamin Cemetery, Amoret, Missouri. Contributions are suggested to the Amoret Community Center.
