EVA ATHERTON Eva Isabell Atherton, 88, of Pleasanton, Kansas, died Friday, October 15, 2010 at Mercy Health Center, Fort Scott, Kansas. She was born December 6, 1921 in Mapleton, Kansas, the daughter of Arthur and Belle Post Plain. She was a graduate of Fulton High School She married Otto Atherton on January 2, 1941. He preceded her on April 5, 1988. She was a seamstress and a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union AFL/CIO #565. She was preceded in death also by her parents; two brothers, Raymond and Leo Plain, one sister, Marie Jent and a great grandson, Charles Sheppard. Survivors include a son; Otto Atherton & Edna of Pleasanton, Kansas, one brother, Jack Plain & Pauline; a brother-in-law, Winfred Jent, a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Plain, grandchildren; Lisa & Guy Wakefield, David & Kristin Atherton, Heather Atherton, Courtney & Brendon Russell and Micah & KC Atherton; eight great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, October 18, 2010 at the Mapleton Cemetery, Mapleton, Kansas. Visitation will be from 4-6 PM, Sunday at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Pleasanton, Kansas. Contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association.
