Ellen Lucille DeMott, 93, of Pleasanton, Kansas, died Monday, February 28, 2005 at Fort Scott Manor Nursing Home, Fort Scott, Kansas. She was born September 18, 1911, south of Pleasanton, Kansas on what is now known as the site of the "Battle of Mine Creek". She was the daughter of Emmit and Eulah Lou Blount Peare. Ellen attended grade school at Antioch School and later attended high school in Pleasanton. She married Claude Gentry DeMott at Girard, Kansas. He preceded her in death on March 14, 1985. Although Ellen had no children, she always enjoyed children very much. She and her husband resided all of their lives in and around Pleasanton, with the exception of ten months in Overland Park, Kansas. Ellen worked for Ed Hoag in his clothing store and later she worked for 12 years for Kathryn Lhuillier in the Variety Store. She was a member of the William Creekmore Chapter as long as it was in existence and a member of the First Christian Church of Pleasanton since 1942. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, R.J. Peare and one sister,Virginia Peare. Survivors include one sister, Kathryn Peare Hayes of Lee's Summit, Missouri; eight nieces and nephews and many friends.
