Elaine Schasteen

Lila "Elaine" Schasteen, 79, of Mound City, Kansas died Sunday, November 23, 2008 at her home. She was born September 22, 1929 in Blue Mound, Kansas the daughter of Charley and Ruth Scott Ferguson. She was a graduate of Blue Mound High School. She married A.L. "Whitey" Schasteen Jr. May 1, 1948. He preceded her in death on April 10, 2007. Elaine worked as a waitress and also cooked for the USD #346 at Mound City. She was a member of the American Legion Auxilary Hewitt-New Post of Mound City. She was preceded in death also by her parents. Survivors include one son, Wayne Schasteen & Diana of Fort Scott, Kansas; one daughter, Meredith Ison & Marty of Mound City, Kansas; one brother, Jack Ferguson of Pleasanton, Kansas; four grandchildren; Matt Ison & Jennie, Marnie Ison, Bobby Daugherty and Wendy Collier & Ryan and four great grandchildren; Jack, Grace, Peyton & Brynn. Graveside memorial services will be held at 1:30 PM, Wednesday, November 26 at Fort Scott National Cemetery, Fort Scott, Kansas. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8;00 PM, Tuesday at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Mound City. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Jayhawk Elementary School cafeteria.
