Edward Schmidt

Edward Byron Schmidt, 98, of Prescott, Kansas, died Monday, December 22, 2008 at Mercy Hospital, Fort Scott, Kansas. He was born July 3, 1910 on a farm southwest of Mound City, Kansas, the son of William O. and Emma Pearl Osborn Schmidt. He was married to Virginia Shaw on April 29, 1934. Edward and Virginia lived on the farm where Edward was born for all of their married lives. Virginia passed away on December 29, 1978. Edward eventually moved to Senior Housing in Pleasanton. The past few years he has been residing at Country View Nursing Home in Prescott. Edward was a member of the Mantey Methodist Church and the National Audubon Society. Edward was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. He was also preceded in death by sister, Wilma Ruth Shaw, and his brother, Louis Schmidt and Paul Schmidt, and three nephews, Richard Schmidt, Robert Schmidt, and Everette Shaw. He is survived by his nieces, Euleta Taylor, and Paula Cochran, and his nephews, Raymond Schmidt, Steven Schmidt, Charles Schmidt, and Ross Schmidt as well as numerous great nieces and nephews. He was a very beloved uncle to all of his nieces and nephew and their offspring. Graveside Services will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, December 27, 2008 at the Curry Cemetery, Mound City, Kansas. Contributions suggested to Southern Care Hospice, or Prescott, Country View Nursing Home Activity Fund c/o the funeral home. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.coffelschneider.com.
