Edith Charmian Gorman, age 89 of Mound City, Kansas passed away Wednesday May 12, 2010 at Fort Scott Manor at Fort Scott, Kansas. Edith was born in Mound City, Kansas on April 9, 1921, the daughter of Gus and Grace Good Warzel. The family later moved to Fort Scott, Kansas where Edith spent most of her life until her marriage to Bernard Gorman on June 9. 1949, at which time Edith and Bernard returned to Mound City, Kansas. Edith was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bernard, two brothers, Jack and Robert Warzel, and a sister Thais Warzel. She is survived by her four sons, James Gorman (Barbara), Tim Gorman (Brenda), Joseph Gorman (Pamela) and Bill Gorman (Sandy), two sisters Patricia Keating of Fort Scott, Kansas and Shirley Keal of Parsons, Kansas, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Edith was educated in the Fort Scott school system and finished her college education at Saint Mary's College, Leavenworth, Kansas with a BA in Education, BA in Music and a Minor in Social Services. She received her nurses training and practiced as an RN at the physician's clinic, and Mercy Hospital in Fort Scott, Kansas. She was Director of Nursing and Co-Administrator of the nursing home in Mound City, Kansas for approximately 5 years. She later worked for the Kansas State Department of Health as a nurse surveyor of health care facilities. She was selected as the surveyor of the year for the State of Kansas and also National Surveyor of the Year both in 1988. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am Saturday May 15, 2010 at the Sacred Heart Church at Mound City, Kansas. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM Friday May 14, at the Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home at Mound City, with a visitation to follow until 8:30 PM.
