Earl DeWayne Avery, 84, of Prescott, Kansas, died Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at Prescott Country View Nursing Home where he had resided for the past four years. Earl was born February 3, 1930 at home on the farm in rural Pleasanton, Kansas, the son of Harry Willard and Alpha Mae Miller Avery. Earl was kind and gentle and a scholar graduate of Prescott High School and Kansas State University. During his high school years he wore a body cast and so was unable to participate in sports. Earl was a great fan of K State sports. He married Mary Secrest October, 1956 and to this union four sons were born. Mary preceded him in death on December 4, 2001. Earl married Elma Jean Holmes July of 2007. Earl was involved with a number of jobs after college, working for the Corp of Engineers on Tuttle Creek Dam; ; was an insurance adjuster for Western Insurance, Fort Scott, Kansas and a State Farm Insurance agent in Linn County, Kansas for 30 years. He served for 4 years with the Navy Reserve and was a member of the Battlefield Cemetery Association. He was a 50 year member of the Mound City Masonic Lodge and Shrine where he served all chairs. He taught Sunday School at the Prescott Methodist Church for a number of years and later was a member of the Pleasanton Nazarene Church. He was preceded in death also by his parents; and sons Ronald and Michael. He is survived by his wife; Elma of Prescott, Kansas; two sons; Harry and Robert Avery; a brother, Robert Dale Avery and wife, Joan; and grandson, Aaron Avery and wife, Amanda. Services will be held at ����������� 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the Pleasanton Church of the Nazarene. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Prescott Country View Nursing Home or the Pleasanton Church of the Nazarene. Interment will be in the Battlefield Cemetery, Pleasanton, Kansas.
