Dorothy Lucille Dunlop-Cox, 86, of La Cygne, KS, went to be with her Lord Sunday morning October 12, 2014, comforted by her husband, son and daughter by her side. Dorothy was born May 16, 1928 at Somerset, KS, the daughter of Walter W. and Nellie May Long-Dunlop, the second of six children. Her childhood was spent up on the family farm near Parker, Kansas where she learned the value of family and the art of cooking for loved ones. She attended grade school at Pleasant Home and later Parker School, graduated from Parker Rural High School in 1946, and married LaVern Cox on May 23, 1946 in Paola at the Miami County Court House. Dorothy put her love into her passion of cooking, and it soon became a career as a cook at Parker Rural High School, Prairie View High School and Head Cook at La Cygne Elementary School, serving the children she adored. She and LaVern were avid Square Dancers in their younger years. She enjoyed playing cards, reading, cross stitching and quilting. Dorothy was active in 4-H with her children. She attended Fontana Christian Church. Dorothy was preceded in meeting the Lord by her parents Walter and Nellie Dunlop, infant brother Dale Andrew Dunlop, eldest brother Walter Eugene Dunlop and his dear wife Ellen. She is survived by her husband LaVern Cox, son Norman Cox and his wife Diana, daughter Jalane Cox-Alexander and her husband Thatcher, brothers; Raymond Dunlop and his wife Jessie, Charles Dunlop and his wife Carolyn, sister Fern Dunlop-Knight and her husband Roger, grandchildren; Lori Cox-Huggins and her husband Allen, Sherry Cox-Yetter and her husband Mike, Brandy Cox, David Alexander and his wife Dawn, Brian Alexander and his wife Sarah as well as thirteen great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 16th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, La Cygne Chapel. Funeral service will be held 10:30 am, Friday, October 17, 2014 at the Fontana Christian Church followed by the Burial service at the Prairie Home Cemetery near LaVern and Dorothy''s farmhouse.
