Dollie Maxine Brown, 63, of rural Fulton, Kansas died June 13, 2011 due to a fatal stroke at her home. She was born September 30, 1947 at Nevada, Missouri, the daughter of Walter H. and Viola P. Phillips Hopkins. She attended school at Hume, Missouri until the fifth grade, and due to her father's transfer of employment to Madisonville, Kentucky where she graduated from High School. She then graduated from Havlin Beauty School in Kansas City, Missouri and was a licensed Cosmetologist in Missouri. Dollie was baptized March 29, 1959 at the Second Baptist Church in Madisonville, Kentucky. She married Gary V. Brown on February 20, 1971 at the Grace Baptist Church, Fort Scott, Kansas and they spent their entire 40 years of marriage in the rural Fulton, Kansas area. She was also employed at Oak Lawn Medical Facility and later employed at the Western Insurance Company for 12 years, and also worked later for the Hume Insurance Agency for 15 years. After working at the Hume Insurance Agency she worked alongside her husband, Gary, participating in all concerns of their farm. She enjoyed feeding the "bottle calves" and at one time was responsible for 33 calves. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, flowers, Hummingbirds, and all animals. Her "pet peeve" was weeds and she mowed everything that was out of place. Her family was very important in her life. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Thomas and Walter Hopkins. Survivors include her husband, Gary of Fulton, Kansas; one sister, Edith Peterson & Sonny of Fort Scott, Kansas, two sisters-in-law, Linda Minkler & Jess of Kincaid, Kansas and Roberta Stringer & Les of Wichita, Kansas; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, June 16, 2011 at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Pleasanton, Kansas. Visitation will be from 1:00 until service time. Contributions are suggested to the Pleasanton Cemetery Association. Interment will be in the Pleasanton Cemetery.
